After SpiceJet, IndiGo and Air India enter fare war

Delhi,Business/Economy, Thu, 03 Apr 2014 IANS

New Delhi, April 3 (IANS) Air India and IndiGo Thursday followed SpiceJet to attract flyers, offering promotional schemes

Budget carrier IndiGo has slashed Delhi-Mumbai fares from Rs.3,960 (one-way) to Rs.2,436.

"We have noticed our sales jump by five times since Spice announced their sale and expect the momentum to continue with the drop in fares by Indigo," said Sharat Dhall, president, Yatra.

Air India launched a short-term monsoon sale with a flat rate of Rs.1,599 on 108 flights.

"This sale is in line with market competition. Bookings on the scheme starts from today (April 3) till April 5 for a travel period in September," an Air India official told IANS.

The new schemes comes after low cost carrier (LCC) SpiceJet started a promotional scheme Tuesday by offering fares starting at Re.1 excluding taxes, for travel starting July 1 onwards.
