Tanda (Himachal Pradesh), Mar.20 (ANI): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday wooed ex-servicemen during his election campaign in the Tanda area of Himachal Pradesh's Kangra District.
The people also thanked Gandhi for his role in facilitating the clearance of 'one rank, one pension' plan passed by the UPA Government.
During the discussion on the interim budget last month, Finance Minister P Chidambaram had announced the "one-rank, one pension" plan to ensure that retirees receive a pension to match the rank at which they retired regardless of when they had left the armed forces.
Drawing comparisons with his own party, Gandhi attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for keeping poor people out of country's administration.
"The election is a battle of thoughts in India. On one hand, there is Congress which feels that power should be in each and every hand and that is how the country can be powerful. On the other side, the opposition thinks that the country can be run by only powerful and rich and they have no place for the poor in their ideas," said Rahul.
Rahul also invited questions, grievances and suggestions from the people who had come to attend the public meeting.
Meanwhile, Gandhi said that if his party formed the government after the elections, he would try to bring the next generation of ex-servicemen into the middle class category.
"There are 70 crore people who are below middle class but above Below Poverty Line (BPL) and you are included in that. We want to try to put those people in middle class in the next ten years," added Gandhi. (ANI)
