Chandigarh, Mar. 13 (ANI): Former Miss India and Bollywood actress Gul Panag who has long been associated with social activism and the anti-corruption movement, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and will contest general elections from Chandigarh.
AAP leader Manish Sisodia, announced that Panag will be party's official candidate from the city, while addressing a news conference in Chandigarh on Thursday.
"Gul Panag has been supporting us from the very beginning, when the anti-corruption movement had just started in the country. Now, the same movement has given rise to a political party, Aam Aadmi Party, which is all set to contest its first general elections in the country. We declare that Gul Panag will contest elections for us from Chandigarh," said Sisodia.
Meanwhile, speaking to mediapersons, Panag said she joined the AAP movement because she wanted a clean political environment in the country.
"Chandigarh is my home and the place where I have grown up. Like everybody else, I too want clean political environment in the country. That's why I have joined this movement. I also appeal to people present here to be a part of this movement," said Panag. (ANI)
