Do not mix religion with sports: Atul Anjan

New Delhi , Sun, 09 Mar 2014 ANI

New Delhi, March 9, (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Atul Anjan on Sunday cautioned the young students from the minority community not to praise Pakistan blindly before checking the facts in that country.

He also advised them to first go through the details on the plight faced by those who had migrated to that country years back following Partition.

"There is nothing wrong in supporting a team which is playing better in a game. However, at the same time religion should not cloud any sport. Hence, I think it was not right on the part of those students to have chanted slogans in support of our neighbour. No one should hurt the feelings and sentiments of any community which could jeopardize the communal harmony in the society." Anjan said.

"We are not against Pakistan as a country. It was the same country which was formed on the basis of theocracy. One should see the conditions of migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh first who crossed over to Pakistan and are still considered in poor light and are called Mohajirs (refugees) at large. They should not make any irresponsible comments against ones own country where one resides." he added.

Last Sunday, 67 Kashmiri students were suspended in Meerut, after they cheered the Pakistan cricket team which cruised to victory in the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match in Bangladesh. ( ANI)
