Panaji, March 6 (IANS) Activism has reached such ridiculous limits today that even if US President Barack Obama bombs Iraq and kills four people, activists in Goa would file police complaints, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Thursday.
During the state assembly budget session, Parrikar accused some activists of blackmailing politicians, including the speaker.
He advised others to get themselves treated at a government-run psychiatry care facility.
"If Obama bombs Iraq and four people die, I will not be shocked if an FIR (First Information Report) is filed in Goa," Parrikar said.
The chief minister was referring to a complaint filed by Right to Information (RTI) activist Kashinath Shetye after the death of a prisoner due to food poisoning last year. It ended up with a trial court ordering police to register an FIR.
"Is a home minister responsible for the death of a prisoner? The JMFC (Judicial Magistrate First Class) does not know the law. I got a stay on the order in five minutes," he said.
The chief minister also said there ought to be a special ward in the state government operated Institute for Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) for compulsive activists.
"People are just filing cases," he said, even threatening an RTI activist with breach of privilege for filing a complaint against Speaker Rajendra Arlekar for possessing disproportionate assets.
