Poonch, Mar 2 (ANI): The arterial Mughal Road in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district remained blocked and inaccessible due to heavy snowfall, giving a huge setback to nearby villages.
In the state, where local business thrives on tourism, the business of the villagers has come to a standstill due to low turnout of tourists.
Residents were upset with the state government for ignoring the needs of the district and not getting snow cleared using advanced machinery.
"The main problem regarding Mughal Road is that it shuts down for five to six months. People have bought cars on loan, made shops on loan but the business has come to a halt as tourists are not coming at all. So we request the government to keep the road open throughout the year so that our work keeps going on and we get fruits coming from other districts," said Tehmoor Khan, a villager.
The historical road is a lifeline for the several villages of the valley and connects several important districts of Kashmir.
Normal life in many parts of north India has been adversely affected due to the harsh weather conditions.
In places at higher altitudes, the temperature has even dropped to the sub-zero level. March is generally the month for snow to melt; but with fresh snowfall happening even at the onset of the third month, people are facing a lot of trouble. (ANI)
