London, Mar. 01 (ANI): Plans to bring in the controversial double points ruling of Formula One for the US and Brazil Grands Prix have been reportedly abandoned after they failed to receive sufficient support
The Formula One Strategy Group rejected the double point ruling for more than one race this season.
According to the Mirror, the major point for the critics to avoid this rule, which awards 50 points instead of 25 for the winner of the season finale, is that the final race carries greater significance towards the destination of the title.
Meanwhile, four-time champion Sebastian Vettel said that the rule was 'absurd' and punished the racers who have 'worked hard' for a whole season.
However, the final race of 2014 at Abu Dhabi Yas Marina circuit, which will be held on November 23, will still have the double point system in effect. (ANI)}
