TRS chief meets Sonia

Delhi,Politics, Sun, 23 Feb 2014 IANS

New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS) Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao met Congress president Sonia Gandhi Sunday to thank her for her party's support in the passage of the bill in parliament for creating a separate state of Telangana.

"I thanked her," he told reporters after the meeting.

The meeting came amid expectations in Congress circles that KCR, as he is popularly known, will merge the TRS with the party ahead of Lok Sabha elections expected April-May.

KCR also said that Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh, who is incharge of Andhra Pradesh, will be "in touch with me".

Rao has given Gandhi credit for the passage of the bill, saying that it would not have been possible without her intervention.

Telangana is all set to become the 29th Indian state. Parliament approval was Thursday accorded to the bill to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh to create the new state.
