Galudih, (Jharkhand), Feb. 22 (ANI): Families of victims, who were killed by Maoists in Jharkhand on Friday, expressed their sorrow over the government's apathy towards their demands for compensation and action against the rebels.

The Maoists killed two members of anti-Maoist party group called NASUS (Nagrik Suraksha Samiti), Santosh Mahto and Krishna Chandra Mahto in Keshpur area of Galudih district between 2006 and 2008.

The rebels are rapidly expanding their insurgency and could move from remote rural areas to cities.

35-year-old Santosh Mahto was attacked by the rebels on November 30, 2006 when he went to the market.

Santosh Mahto's brother Jagat Bandhu Mahto said the posters of Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) were found with his body.

"My brother went to the market and did not return till evening. We went and searched for him but we couldn't find him. We found his body on fourth day at around 4.00 pm. We found posters of Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) and held them responsible for my brother's killing," he said.

The family members said that they received a compensation of rupees 100, 000 but no other aid has been provided.

Equipped with automatic weapons, shoulder rocket launchers, mines and explosives, the Maoists want to cripple economic activity.

Another case came to light when Krishna Chandra Mahto was also killed by the Maoists in 2008.

His brother Shambu Nath Mahto highlighted the plight of the family.

"The Maoists gunned down my brother on August 22, 2008 while he was going to market. We were in the village. When we got to know we came but my brother succumbed to his injuries while he was being taken to hospital by the villagers," he said. (ANI)
