Ansari greets people ahead of Republic Day, meets NSS volunteers

New Delhi, Jan.24 (ANI): Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of the country ahead of Republic Day.

In his message released on Friday, Ansari said: ""I extend my greetings and best wishes to the people of our country on the joyous occasion of the Republic Day. On this solemn day, as we pay tribute to our Republic, let us resolve to work together, in a spirit of unity and camaraderie, to build a modern, secular and prosperous nation."

The vice president also met with National Service Scheme (NSS) Contingent Volunteers, who called on him at his residence here today.

These volunteers have gathered in the capital from all parts of the country to participate in the Republic Day - 2014 celebration. The NSS Memento was presented to the Vice President by Rajiv Gupta, Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, on the occasion.

Ansari interacted with the volunteers and congratulated them for their significant contributions in social service beside their academic achievements. He wished them good success in their lives and asked them to follow their motto and set their examples.

200 NSS Contingent Volunteers (100 boys and 100 girls) from 28 states and seven Union Territories belonging to 98 universities are participating in this camp.

The parade camp brings a Mini India to Delhi during the month long training camp since 1988 where they not only interact among themselves but also meet and talk to national personalities and exchange their views as well as experience.

The volunteers stay in the camp in exemplary harmony and lead a simple life and are imparted training in leadership development and parade apart from socio-culture and academic activities. (ANI)
