South Korean President meets Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Jan.16 (ANI): South Korean President Park Geun-Hye met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Thursday, as Seoul explores possibilities of a nuclear project imparting new dynamism to the bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Park Geun-hye also held delegation level talks with Prime Minister Singh during which both sides discussed bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest to the two countries.

New Delhi and Seoul, struck a civilian nuclear agreement in 2011 and now the Koreans are very keen on pushing hard to get more nuclear-power contracts in a bid to boost the country's slowing economy.

The daughter of former president Park Chung-hee, who ruled South Korea for almost two decades, Park took over as president in February last year.

The visit will expand and strengthen the India-Republic of Korea Strategic Partnership.

Earlier in the day Geun-hye received a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi and met India's Foreign Minister, Salman Khurshid.

President Park Geun-hye has been accompanied by a high-level delegation which includes the Foreign Minister, the Minister for Science, ICT and Future Planning, and the Minister for Trade and Industry.

Reportedly, the two sides tend to enhance their partnership in the fields of information technology, aerospace and other high-tech industries, where India has global competitive advantages and also in the field of space.

During the visit, the two nations are set to discuss the need for increasing the level of trade as well as preventing double taxation for companies.

South Korea is a major investment partner of India.

According to sources, Park had stressed on her desire to revise the bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

As of now, about 300 Korean companies function across the country while Indian companies in the areas relating to motor vehicles, IT and pharmaceuticals have a marked presence in South Korea.

The two nations also have a wide-ranging defence relationship. (ANI)
