New Delhi, Jan 6 (ANI): A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle 1.2 kg of gold bars into the country soon after landing at the Indira Gandhi International airport here.
The accused was intercepted by customs officers after his arrival from Bangkok on the intervening night of 04/05.01.2014.
The Air Customs Preventive Officers at the IGI Airport, New Delhi intercepted the passenger after he had crossed the green channel.
On thorough personal search of the said passenger, 16 gold bars were found concealed inside the insoles of the shoes worn by him. The recovered gold bars totally weighed 1220 grams and was collectively valued at Rs.28,77,462/-.
The gold bars weighing 1220 grams and valued at Rs.28,77,462/- was placed under seizure under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 and the passenger was placed under arrest.
