Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced that school teachers in Delhi now will be allowed to serve upto the age of 65. Keeping in view the shortage of teachers in the schools and government’s decision to make proper utilization of the experience of teachers, it has been decided by the Cabinet to grant extension to teachers beyond 62 years. The extension is being granted on the similar terms & conditions as was done while extending the age of their serving in the schools from 60 to 62 in 2006.
The present decision would benefit around 50,000 teachers in due course. Dikshit further stated that this is a recognition, in true sense, as the city government has honoured the experience and skill of those teachers who strived hard to ensure an academic excellence. The credit of the highest-ever pass percentage in Class-1oth & 12th CBSE Board exams goes to the teachers.
Dikshit also presented State Teachers’ Award to 74 outstanding teachers in a function organized to commemorate the Teachers’ Day at Thyagraj Stadium where rich tributes were paid to the former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Delhi Education Minister Prof. Kiran Walia and large number of school teachers, students and other eminent persons were present.
Dikshit further stated that the teachers have been shaping the thoughts of young minds. They also contribute in character building of the students apart from nation-building. Our culture and traditions have taught us to give due respect to our teachers. While referring to the school education in Delhi, Smt. Dikshit stated that this is being termed as the best in the country. The Directorate of Education has taken number of initiatives to ensure the best possible school infrastructure in the city.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Kiran Walia stated that the Directorate of Education during the last 15 years has brought laurels to the city government and Delhi. The schools in Delhi have been providing holistic education and have been igniting the minds of children. Apart from academic excellence, the students of government schools in Delhi have also performed well in sport.
