New Delhi, Mon, 30 Sep 2013 NI Wire

A major blow came today for Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav when Ranchi CBI court found him guilty in fraudulently withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from Chaibasa Treasury in the 1990s.

The arguments on punishment will begin from Tuesday (October 01) and the quantum of punishments will come on October 03, stated special CBI judge P K Singh.

There were 56 accused in this case including Lalu and former Chief Minister of Bihar Jagannath Mishra along with some IAS officers but during the 17-years long trial seven accused died, two turned approvers, one admitted to the crime and one was discharged.

The court today found convicts all remaining 45 accused guilty in the fodder scam and all of them were sent to jail.

This verdict of court can put a question mark on Lalu’s political career which is already doing.

But, if the UPA government does not reevaluate the controversial ordinance - which it passed to shield the tainted and convicted MPs, MLAs and political leaders defying the Supreme Court's order to disqualifying them - and make some amendment, he has still chance to escape.

The controversial ordinance has attract severe criticism from opposition parties and Congress party Vice president, who called to torn down the documents of the controversial bill.

President Pranab Mukherjee too has indicated his discomfort of the ordinance in its present form.

The court can pronounced him jail from minimum three years to seven years and this can lead to end his political career as he will be disqualified from member of Parliament posts, and can not fight the next election, scheduled in 2014.

However, RJD leaders and son of Lalu Prasad Yadav informed media that they will challenge this verdict in the upper court.
