Security of passengers is a key issue for the Government:Goswami

Delhi Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami had called a high-level review meeting at Delhi sect. of all stakeholders -- including the Transport Department, Delhi Police, Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS) and DTC for the betterment of transport services.

After the meeting Transport Minister Said that Transport Department has decided to put coloured strips of 11 different types on autos insist of 6 earlier decided to segregate them into different zones. On implementation it will solve the major problem of refusal in night as the drivers cannot refuse to take passengers to the area or zone they belong to.

Transport Minister said that a committee will be constituted for smooth functioning of Gramin Sewa services for convenience of people of Delhi. The committee consists of members from Transport department, Delhi traffic police and DIMTS. This committee will give report on smooth functioning of gramin sewa and routes covered by gramin sewa in different area of Capital.

Goswami said that for safety of passengers and complaints of overcharging and misbehaviour against auto-rickshaw drivers, the Transport Department has decided to use the services of the Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS) and the Police Control Room to evolve a mechanism. Goswami said security of passengers is a key issue for the Government. There is also a provision for providing various helpline numbers on the auto-rickshaw body.

Transport Minister instructed DTC for strict compliance of speed restrictions of its buses as it is keen to make Delhi roads free of accidents. He said that all the new drivers will have to undergo intensive training program on road safety and safe driving.

Counselling on lane driving and driving with prescribed speed limit, no overtaking of buses at queue shelters must be insured for drivers. He said that strict action will be taken against the temporary drivers of DTC for lacking driving skills. He instructed DTC for regular checking by the senior officers and making flying squads more effective and visible.
