Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit stated that her government has been sensitive to the needs of all sections of the society. Dikshit also stated that apart from taking up huge infrastructure development projects, the city government is also concentrating on social sector schemes. The city government has decided to launch this ambitious program on 20th August, 2013 at Talkatora stadium .UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to launch this important programme to provide food to every person The actual benefits would percolate down w.e.f. 1st September, 2013 to 32 lakh eligible persons.
It took a significant decision to provide relief to 84% domestic power consumers immediately after the new enhanced rates announced by the DERC, the sole authority to decide on the tariff. She also stated that the consumers would start receiving their reduced bills w.e.f. 1st September, 2013. The government has decided to make available 500 cr to meet out the subsidy sanction to the domestic consumers.
The city government which has been ensuring uninterrupted power supply was also keen to mitigate the effect of enhanced tariff. Hence, it decided to enhance subsidy in the category of 0 to 200 units from ` 1/- per unit to ` 1.20/- per unit. Further, it also introduced the new subsidy of ` 0.80/- per unit in the category of 201 to 400 units.
The number of beneficiaries has gone up substantially after enforcement of new rates w.e.f. 1st August, 2013. Smt. Dikshit stated that Delhi is the only state in the country to sanction such substantial subsidy to consumers. Smt. Dikshit stated that the development in Delhi is visible as well as it can be felt.
The project of a parallel Road on ORR work on which is being taken up from today would become visible within 18 months. The new road would take up 40% burden of traffic from ORR. It would also be connected with the elevated road on the ORR. She further stated that the first-ever six-lane parallel road would ensure fast, congestion-free access to the outer areas of Delhi to the central areas.
