Delhi Cabinet approved a proposal to broad based Dilli Annshree Yojana in order to ensure benefit under the scheme to more and more vulnerable households in the Capital city. The proposal envisages liberalized eligibility criteria. The decision was taken at a Cabinet Meeting Chaired by the Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit.

While briefing the media after the Cabinet Meeting Dikshit stated that Dilli Annshree Yojana is an ambitious scheme of our government. It is a sincere effort in the direction of ensuring food security in the city.

As the allocation of specified food articles under Public Distribution System was limited, it was earlier decided in April, 2008 to provide food articles to families having annual income up to 1 lac. Thereafter, over the last five years, there has been no addition of list of families getting ration. Consequently, a number of vulnerable households who deserve the state assistance for food security have been left out.

To ensure food security to such vulnerable and most vulnerable households, city government approved Dilli Annshree Yoajana. Under the Scheme, 600/- per month is being provided as food subsidy through Aadhar-based bank account of senior most female of households. Benefits under the Scheme are not admissible if the household is drawing ration through PDS.

Dikshit stated that Dilli Annshree Yojana is the first of its kind to provide supplementary help to vulnerable households not covered under the PDS. Presently, more than 1 lac households have been covered under the Scheme. However, it was estimated earlier that around 5,74,000/- vulnerable and the most vulnerable households would become eligible as per the survey conducted by the Mission Convergence. The Cabinet had decided that two lac households should be covered at first instance under the Dilli Annshree Yojana.
