Ministers from different parties, government official are raising voice against the suspension of Uttar Pradesh IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal.
IAS association on Monday urged the UP government to reverse the suspension.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal also came out in support of Durga saying that the decision of the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) Government clearly suggests that politics and politicians are turning dirty.
Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh alleged that the sand mafia is nowadays running the governments in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
The official was suspended Sunday by the state government on grounds of arbitrarily issuing orders of a demolition of a mosque in Noida, with the potential to trigger communal tension.
Nagpal was the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Greater Noida until her suspension.
Officials close to the SDM, however, alleged that she was eased out owing to her sustained drive against illegal mining in the area.
She is reported to have seized more than 25 trucks carrying sand in the last one month. Nagpal had also cracked down on illegal mining in Greater Noida in the last few weeks, seizing nearly 300 trolleys of sand from the Yamuna river bed. She had also formed special flying squads to check the menace, rampant along the Yamuna and Hindon rivers in western Uttar Pradesh.
Congress leader Rashid Masood reacted sharply to the official's suspension and accused the ruling Samajwadi Party of protecting criminals.
Vijay Bahadur Pathak of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) added: "What can you expect from this government where the honest officials are hounded and the corrupt protected?"
UP government on the other hand had said that the suspension of Nagpal was a routine administrative measure after she showed "lack of foresight in ordering the demolition of an under construction wall of a mosque in Kadalpur village.
"Her immature decision could have triggered communal tension," a senior government official said. "The government was forced to take a tough stand."
The government has attached her to the revenue board.
