Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit laid the foundation stone for renovation of DTC Bus Terminal at Mehrauli. Delhi Assembly Speaker Dr. Yoganand Shastri, Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami, South Delhi MP Ramesh Kumar besides some senior officers of the Corporation were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dikshit said that the Delhi Government as well as Delhi Transport Corporation is committed to provide reliable and efficient bus service to its commuters. She added that more low floor AC and non AC buses are being added to the DTC Fleet and there will be no scarcity of buses for Delhiites.
Dikshit stated that her government has been striving to provide world-class infrastructure in the city. The transport scenario has undergone a sea-change with introduction of Delhi Metro services, AC and Non-AC low-floor buses, number of flyovers, underpasses and FOBs. It has ensured hassle-free and fast movement of traffic. Our government is working for the masses as it has regularized more than 900 colonies apart from opening transaction in recently authorized colonies. It has also decided to grant ownership rights in 45 resettlement colonies to benefit to lakhs of people.
The government has initiated the process to grant such right. Delhi has witnessed an all-round development be it in the field of school education, higher education, health, welfare apart from brining a positive change in governance by adopting e-governance procedures. She also stated that Delhi has become a medical tourism hub as it has been providing the best surgery and treatment at very reasonable rates.
Dr. Shastri stated that the Mehrauli Terminal had been functional since 1984 over a 2 acre land provided by the DDA. It became old and was getting deteriorated with passing of time. It was decided to renovate it to make it a modern and spacious terminal to cater to the needs of the local people. It took time to initiate the renovation work as permission from Department of Archaeology and National Monument Authority was necessary. Meanwhile, the Department moved a proposal to merge Mehrauli Terminal with Lado Sarai Terminal.
