Directed by Nikhil Advani, “D-Day” is an Indian crime film slated for release on July 19, 2013. As expected by many, the film will somehow take you back to the infamous 1993 Mumbai serial blast. The film has so far created quite a few buzz because of the star-cast and, of course, the subject it attempts to recreate onscreen.
Director Nikhil Advani of “Kal Ho Na Ho” (2003) fame, whose last directorial venture was “Patiala House”, is now venturing into the action genre. The film stars Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi, Irrfan Khan and Shruti Haasan in pivotal roles.
Rishi Kapoor is playing the character based on the life of organised crime mafia fugitive Dawood Ibrahim. So far, the onscreen looks for this character has garnered rave reviews. Before of the start of the film, it was reported that Arshad Warsi might play the role, but the director was able to convince Rishi Kapoor, who was bit reluctant in essaying the character of Dawood.
Rishi Kapoor has not played much grey-shaded characters in his entire film career baring the one as Rauf Lala in Karan Malhotra’s Agneepath. It is believed that his chilling performance in Agneepath might have prompted the director of D-Day to rope in with Rishi Kapoor.
Among others, Arjun Rampal is playing an army man; Irfan Khan in the role of RAW agent; Shruti Haasan is playing a Karachi-based sex worker and Huma Qureshi, an immigration officer. Interestingly, well-known Hollywood action director Tom Struthers, who has worked in the Dark Knight series, has created the action sequences for D-Day.
Although Bollywood as successfully created movies based on India-Pakistan rivalry or terrorism with film like Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and Ek Tha Tiger, D-Day’s director Nikhil Advani has maintained the fact that his film has nothing to do with Indian and Pakistan in particular, rather it’s a film on four people their own complexities and how they come out of it.
