President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday presented Padma awards to distinguished persons for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields at a civil investiture ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan at the capital.
On the occasion, the President conferred two Padma Vibhushan, ten Padma Bhushan and forty-two Padma Shri awards.
International fame sculptor Raghunath Mahopatra and Energy Physicist Prof. Yash Pal were awarded with the Padma Vibhushans.
In addition to that, former Indian cricket skipper Rahul Dravid, Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore and DRDO Director General Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat were honoured with Padma Bhushan award.
Major names among the 42 eminent personalities to receive the Padma Shri awards are Bollywood actress Sridevi Kapoor, veteran Malayalam actor Madhu, Sanskrit and Hindi Scholar Ramakant Shukla.
A number of dignitaries were also present during the occasion which includes Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Union Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.
