Government to move Supreme Court for removal of cap on TSR permit

New Delhi, Tue, 30 Apr 2013 NI Wire

Delhi Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami has stated that the commuters have been experiencing shortage of auto-rickshaws in Delhi. The Transport Department has been receiving representations from the public to grant more permits of TSR in order to cater to the increasing number of commuters.

It has also been felt that the commuters continue to wait to avail TSR ride to reach upto their destination. The city government has, hence, decided to approach Supreme Court to remove the limit on number of permits of TSR in Delhi as there is no such restriction on registration of other type of vehicles. urther, no such restriction exists in most cities of India. The Department feels that with grant of permits for more TSR there would be no pollution hazard as TSRs are propelled by CNG, a clean fuel.

Gowami further stated that Hon’ble Supreme Court had allowed permission to grant additional 45,000 permits out of which 3000 were kept unallocated. The Department has since decided to grant permit in respect of unallocated share of TSR in earlier determined proportion. The permits would be exclusively released to TSR buyer who have already bought the TSR but could not get registered due to delay in logistics.

The Department has also decided to take strict action against the TSR dealers who have sold TSR to people without caring about the non-availability of quota. As sufficient number of permits are available in the reserved category and number of takers are very less the Department decided to give sufficient publicity through leading newspapers to invite them to avail the quota provided to them. Shri Goswami expressed hope that these step would go a long way in overcoming shortage of TSRs in Delhi.
