Dr. A.K. Walia, Minister of Higher Education, Training & Technical Education has said that the World Class Skill Centre in collaboration with the Institute of Technical Education, Govt. of Singapore will start functioning from the coming Academic Session in August this year. The ITI Vivek Vihar has been chosen as a temporary campus for starting the Centre in two sectors i.e. Hospitality and Retail Merchandising.
The Minister was interacting today with a delegation from Singapore led by Mr. NG Cher Pong, Deputy Secretary (Policy), Ministry of Education, Singapore.
Dr. Walia informed that the World Class Skill Centre in Delhi is being set up in pursuance of MoU signed between the Govt. of India and Govt. of Singapore to provide the necessary broad framework for the collaboration in setting up of the World Class Skill Centre signed last year during the visit of Prime Minister of Singapore.
He said that as the Vocational Education in our country suffers from the low aspirant value. The Minister expressed hope that the joint collaboration shall bring the quality education to provide opportunity of 100% gainful employment and help to change the mindset of the young men and women towards Vocational Education.
The Minister informed that 37.01 Acres of land has already been allotted for setting up the project at Jaunapur in South Delhi. Delhi Government is taking up the project on Build, Operate & Transfer (BOT) basis. The project will be completed by July, 2015. On completion, the courses offered at the Centre will also include : Hospitality Tourism, Health Care, Automobile, Logistics, Production & Manufacturing, IT & IT Enabled Services, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Electronics, Food Processing etc. in addition to Hospitality Tourism & Merchandising being started from the coming Academic Session at ITI Vivek Vihar.
