The protest against rape of a five-year girl continued in the capital for the second day as the protesters gathered in front of Delhi Headquarters in ITO demanding detention of Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar and the two policemen who delayed investigations on the case.
The outrage also continued at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where treatment of the victim is going on. The protesters gathered near the hospital in large number and raised slogans against the government and demanded death penalty for the accused.
The crowd also broke into Congress president Sonia Gandhi's residence to show their anger over the rape of a five-year-old girl.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday raised concern over the safety of women in the country and said though the government is engaged in strengthening law for the safety of women as vast improvement is needed for women’s security and there is need of collective effort to eradicate such happenings completely from the society.
The 5 year girl was sexually assaulted brutally and raped for four days in Gandhi Nagar area of East Delhi. The gruesome assault has caused serious damage to victim’s private parts. The victim is being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) presently to which doctors have said her condition to be stable now. The doctors have removed a 200-ml bottle of hair oil and pieces of candlesticks from her vaginal orifice.
The prime accused, Manoj Kumar was arrested in Muzzaffarpur, Bihar on Saturday morning at around 2:00 am. The accused was arrested by a team of Delhi police, with the help of the local police from his his in-law's village, Chiknouta situated about 70 kms from Patna. A Bihar court granted Delhi Police three-day transit remand of Manoj Kumar who later admitted to police investigators that another man was present with him during the crime.
