Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Saturday denied allegations from opposition parties that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) always worked under pressure from the Government.
Rashid said, "Now the Supreme Court has taken up the matter, so now we can only wait for the SC verdict. BJP has a tendency of providing false information."
"CBI will file the affidavit in front of the SC, and then everything will become transparent", he added.
Earlier, Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj had alleged that Central Bureau of Investigation is working with Congress-led UPA Government to save Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Sushma tweeted, "This is a very serious matter. This is evidence of the government's pressure on the CBI to save the Prime Minister".
BJP leader Arun Jaitley also lashed out on UPA government saying, "The farce of being autonomous and independent, which the CBI has attempted to maintain, is now conclusively and completely demolished and dismantled. CBI cannot go to the root of the matter, CBI cannot find out the truth. And if some honest officer in the CBI tries to find out the truth, the UPA -- a rogue government- will not allow it (the CBI) to operate independently".
"And that is why the search for truth in the coal scam has now been interfered with. That this should be done at the level of Minister and the officials of the PMO itself raises serious questions. The UPA is interested in diluting the guilt of the culprits. And therefore, what dilutions are to be made in this report is obviously what the agenda of this meeting should have been," he added.
Aam Aadmi party leader Prashant Bhushan had also raised questions over CBI, saying that it is directly controlled by the ruling Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government.
Prashant said, "All the CBI officials and the high ranking Government officials are directly controlled by the ruling Congress party, in terms of their promotions and transfers."
He said, " It now transpires that it was shared with the Prime Ministers office (PMO), the Union Law Minister and it was diluted and modified. My information says that the attorney general was present at this meeting in the Law Minister's office."
"Within ten days of that hearing, they have transferred out the officer-in-charge, Mr. Ravi Kant who was the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) who had filed his affidavit in the Supreme Court. He has now been transferred to the Investigation Bureau. Now, how can one expect fair probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation," he added.
Bhushan said, "Now the ruling Congress doesn't want to let go of the CBI and hence Lokpal was not allowed to take off."
