The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led by M Karunanidhi Monday have closed all its door from congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government after erupting difference on the issue of Sri Lanka's war crime with Tamils.
DMK that had withdrawn support from UPA government on March 19, 2012 was yet to considered it on whether to support UPA govt or not from outside, finally decided to not to support to UPA in any kind.
The latest decision in this regard took place at the DMK's executive meet held here.
Karunanidhi's son M K Alagiri skipped the crucial executive committee meet today thereby fuelling further signs of friction within the party. Alagiri, however, told the media in Madurai that he did not attend meeting due to health reasons.
Indicating further signs of friction within the DMK, Karunanidhi's son M K Alagiri skipped today's crucial executive committee meet called to take key decisions in the wake of the party's pullout from the UPA.
Alagiri met his father and party chief Karunanidhi and conveyed his strong opposition to the manner in which the DMK had withdrawn its ministers from the Centre.
To show his annoyance at not being consulted on the timing, Alagiri had submitted his letter of resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh separately, refusing to go with the other DMK ministers.
The DMK last week withdrew its support to the UPA over the issue of alleged human rights violations of Sri Lankan Tamils, and ruled out any reconsideration.
A five-member DMK delegation headed by T R Baalu handed over a letter by Karunanidhi to President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan withdrawing support of its 18 Lok Sabha MPs to the UPA government.
This move of the DMK has made the UPA Government vulnerable despite its assertions of having a parliamentary majority. The ruling coalition will now eye for support from the regional parties, which includes the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party.
With the pullout of the 18 DMK MPs in the Lok Sabha, the strength of the UPA Government declines from 295 to 277 in the Rajya Sabha.
