Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Sharad Yadav has slammed spending of foreign exchange by Indian government on import of expensive petroleum products and advised to focus on use of gas as replacement of coal and liquid petroleum products.
Yadav said that he has always asserted the judicious use of abundant natural resources found in the country. He said that he voiced his opinion at the time of scam on allotment of coal blocks.
According to him, the use of natural gas can be increased to a great extent if there is a reliable gas supply from developed coal blocks.
JD(U) leader also gave suggestions regarding extracting of gas from the coal blocks saying, before starting the extraction of gas focus should be given on extraction of gas by the way of underground coal gasification, CBM, shale gas etc.
Yadav also said that PSU’s of energy sectors like CIL, OIL, ONGC, GAIL should concentrate on exploring and bringing to use energy sources in our country first rather than shelling out huge money for buying it from outside.
He further said that these public sector undertakings should be allowed to extract gas on nomination basis first. He said that these measures would boost economic development as most of these locations situated at economically underdeveloped/ developing areas.
He said that by following these measures the complete socio- economic scenario of the country can be changed in 6-7 years.
Sharad Yadav further said that during allocation of blocks the preference should be given to the captive use of these blocks to captive to sectors such as power, fertilizer, steel, metal, petrochemical, CNG, commercial and domestic gas suppliers.
He said that his suggestion should be kept in view while preparing the finance budget 2013.
