Sonia Gandhi meets kin to Delhi gang rape victim; assures job, flat

A day after a Delhi's fast track court framed charges against five out of six accused, Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi along with son and Secretary General of Congress Rahul Gandhi visited to the family of Dec 16 Delhi gang rape victim, who succumbed to dead in a Singapore hospital, to “share the sorrow” with the family members on Saturday.

According to reports, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and some Members of Parliament Saturday visited to 23-year old paramedical student's West Delhi resident, where they met to the family members of the victim, who was gang raped and physically tortured by a group of six persons including one juvenile, while resultant the death of the girl during treatment.

The media reports say that Sonia met there to the family members including mother of the victim where she tried to consol the grief kin of the victim. She hold maximum talk to victim's mother who was occasionally began to cry.

She also assured them to provide a flat in Dwarka area and also job to one member of the family.

This was forth time, Sonia met to family members of the victim as she visited twice in Safdarjung hospital where she was admitted and getting treatment and third time at IGIG airport for receiving the dead body of the victim, came from Singapore.

However, it was her first visit to the local resident of the victim.

"Sonia Gandhi told them she had wanted to meet them earlier, and assured that justice will be done."

Both sides also discussed the mass outrage over the gang-rape and death, and the victim's family voiced their sadness over the protest violence and the death of a Delhi Police constable, the source said.

The trainee physiotherapist was brutally gang-raped on a moving bus on Dec 16 night and she and her male friend were thrown off the bus after an hour, bloodied and naked. The case led to nationwide outrage and demand for strengthening anti- rape laws.

The government has passed an ordinance strengthening laws against sexual harrassment.
