To keep Ease Delhi green and clean first priority: Mayor

East Delhi Municipal Corporation has started its door - to - door garbage collection drive from Shahdara (North) Zone in ward No. 254 (Pusta Kartar Nagar) and further Shahdara (South) Zone in ward No. 221 (Kishan Kunj Pusta). EDMC has signed a memorandum of understating (MOU) with an NGO namely "Chintan".

During inauguration of the event, the East Delhi Mayor Dr. Annapurna Mishra said that this garbage collection project can not be successful without the support of entire citizen so I appeal to all of you to come forward and support us in making East Delhi neat, clean and green. The N.G.O. "Chintan" will deploy 87 ragpickers in this project which will provide to green job to urban poors and will also play an important role in better environmental sustainability.

This project will take-off with deployment of ragpickers through the said NGO to collect household waste free of cost to make the East Delhi neat and clean. It is the first time in the areas of EDMC that such kind of door- to- door garbage collection system is being started as a pilot project.

Municipal Commissioner, Mr. S.S. Yadav in his speech informed that this is the first time the corporation has involved a non municipal body for garbage collection assignments. He said the ragpickers of the NGO will come to each house in the morning to collect garbage and further it will be transported at a segregation point and thereafter the waste would be recycled as per modern technology of Waste Management.

Chairman of Standing Committee in EDMC, Mehak Singh said that collection of garbage is an initiative to keep East Delhi green and clean. For the programme, initially a total number of 87 ragpickers will be deployed which will cater 27 colonies and further more hand would be provided for entire East Delhi. The garbage collection will include wet and dry waste from the households. The recyclable dry waste will be segregated and the rest will be disposed off as per the modern norms.
