New Delhi, Sat, 23 Feb 2013 NI Wire

Lt. Governor of Delhi, Tejendra Khanna launched the new "Go German initiative" at the concluding function of the "German Year in India" at India Gate, New Delhi. On this occasion LG stated that Indian and Germany are finest partners in the 21stcentury.

Since our independence Germany has been a great source of strength for providing sophisticated industrial technologies, machinery and financial support to build up India's complex industrial infrastructure. Today, if India can claim that everything from a pin from an aero plane or an ocean going ship is being fabricated and manufactured in India, I think Germany has played a very big role in providing that capability.

LG further stated that likewise Germany we also have a strong intellectual tradition in India in being very open minded to receive knowledge and to evaluate that knowledge on its own merit, never be threatened by diversity always regard diversity as a source of enrichment of life.

In our Rig Vedas it is stated that "Keep the windows of mind always open so that winds of wisdom will blow from all directions" and that is part of Indian traditions and therefore it is one of the reason why India and Germany finds such a close intellectual and spiritual ability to each other.

He also praised the German Ambassador Michael Steiner for promoting "German at 1000 schools" together with Kendriya Vidayalaya, which is the biggest programme of its kind worldwide! and by 2017 one million students will have learned German in school, he stated that this will build a strong friendship and cooperation between two countries in the decade to come.
