Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today stated the city’s heritage is in need of interpretation and this tourist literature initiated by the World Monuments Funds will help in disseminating information about our heritage sites. . Dikshit was speaking at the launch of Tourism Literature & Awareness Campaign for Delhi Schools at Delhi Secretariat today.
On the occasion, Dikshit stated that although Delhi is a prominent cosmopolitan city today, it was once witness to an eventful and prolific history. Many efforts have been made to record and conserve Delhi’s extraordinary legacy.
She further added that drawing all this to a climax is the Delhi Government’s initiative to nominate Delhi as a UNESCO World Heritage City. She appreciated that Multi National Companies are sharing the responsibility of nurturing the city’s heritage. The Chief Minister also expressed her pleasure over DTTDC for stepping in to distribute this literature to a larger audience.
Speaking on this occasion, Chairman (DTTDC) Manish Chatrath said that the awareness campaign conducted in schools across the city was a much needed initiative as it is children who will be entrusted with the priceless legacy that has come down to us from many dynasties.
It was a pleasure to see the wonderful work produced by the children as part of the campaign, and what was even more heartening was the fact that consolation from the fact that this task that we have started, of nominating Delhi as a World Heritage City, will be appreciated by the future generations and the city’s heritage will be well cared for.
At the last of the function, Chief Minister handed over the trophies, certificates and cash prizes to the winners of the competitions.
