People of Delhi have a right to a good govt.: Harish Rawat

New Delhi , Sat, 28 Dec 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Dec.28 (ANI): Union Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat on Saturday wished Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal a successful stint as Delhi's seventh chief minister, shortly after the latter assumed charge of his office following an oath-taking ceremony at the Ram Lila Ground here.

He also said the people of Delhi had a right to have a good government to resolve their problems.

"Our good wishes are with him. It is the right of the Delhi people to get a good government. We have given them support, because there is no other option. The people of Delhi must have faith in the AAP after voting them," said Rawat.

However, he also cautioned Kejriwal and his ministerial team not to go overboard on the issue of corruption in the Indian system, as it could have a detrimental effect in terms of attracting investment.

"Corruption shouldn't be shown in such a way that there will be no investments in India. This is why a strong Lokpal must be made," Rawat said.

"I wish him good luck for his promises. If they have made such promises, they must have chalked out a route map. It is a new experiment on the nation's political front. We in the Congress are seeing Kejriwal as a good start and not as a person," said Rawat.

He also said that there was nothing new in Kejriwal taking the Delhi Metro to reach the venue of the oath-taking ceremony.

"There are many other chief ministers in other states who are using public transport too. However, the media is focussed only on Kejriwal," said Rawat.

Referring to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's meeting with 12 chief ministers of Congress-ruled states here on Friday, he said: "Rahul Gandhi has given a call that there are other laws that will complete the Lokpal." (ANI)
