Melbourne, December 25 (ANI): A Chinese woman has given birth to twin girls at the age of 60, following IVF treatment after her only child died.
Sheng Hailin, who has become possibly the oldest person in the country to give birth, lost her first daughter, who was in her late twenties, in an accidental gas poisoning case in 2009, News.com.au reported.
The case is extremely unusual in China, as the country has long maintained a one-child policy.
She said that to survive and free herself of the loneliness, she decided to have another child, after which a military hospital in the eastern city of Hefei agreed to give her and her husband in vitro fertilisation (IVF) therapy.
According to the Guinness Book of Records, the oldest woman anywhere to give birth was Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara of Spain, who had twin boys at the age of 66 years 358 days. (ANI)
