Centre to provide Panchayati Raj funds to Arunachal under RGPSA scheme

New Delhi, Dec.10 (ANI): A delegation from Arunachal Pradesh met Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Kishore Chand deo on Tuesday,and demanded that he give his approval for the setting up of 445 Panchayati Raj Ghars in the state, in addition to the 67 Gram Panchayat Ghars for an amount of Rs. 406.6 lakh under the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Shaktikaran Abhiyan (RGPSA).

Deo, however,categorically informed that over 400 Gram Panchayat Ghars shall be funded at Rs.12 lakh in place of Rs. 6 Lakh provided recently.

He also said that the Union cabinet will soon take a decision to expand the scope of the Backward Region Grand Fund under the special component of the special schedule in Arunachal Pradesh, where 16 out of 17 districts would be unidentified backward blocks.

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Panchayati Raj Kishore Chand Deo gave this assurance to a delegation led by Member of Parliament Takam Sanjoy.

The meeting took place at his Shastri Bhawan office in New Delhi today.

It is worthwhile to mention that till now Upper Subanshri District in Arunachal Pradesh has been covered under the BRGF programme whereas other districts of the state have not been taken up by the ministry.

Deo informed that the second phase of the BRGF programme would concentrate on those backward blocks of the 16 districts and informed that this decision could be placed before the Union Cabinet.

He also informed the delegates that Panchayati Raj institutions would be the only agency, which will implement this important programme.

Deo assured the delegation that the government would provide an additional fund of Rs. 18.86 crore for lone BRGF-covered districts of Upper Subanshri District.

The delegation also placed a demand for Rs. 20 crore for the construction of a State Training Hostel for panchayat bodies in Itanagar. (ANI)
