New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) A technical snag on Delhi Metro's Blue Line Monday caused inordinate delays and overcrowding at stations all through the day along the 49-km route, an official said.
The Blue Line operates from Dwarka subcity to Noida City Centre/Vaishali terminals.
The problem began at 8 a.m. when the rush of office-goers is peaking on the line. A malfunction on the track circuit between Pragati Maidan and Mandi House affected the entire line, leading to train services running at slow speed and having to halt for long durations at stations, a Delhi Metro official said.
As a result, huge crowds piled up at platforms all along the route - one of the busiest in the capital - that links Dwarka on the west edge of Delhi with Noida and Vaishali in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
"There is some problem with the track circuit on the stretch from Pragati Maidan to Mandi House, because of which the entire line has been affected," said a Delhi Metro official.
Trains were running at a speed of 25 km per hour, the official said.
Usually, Delhi Metro trains run at speeds exceeding 40 km per hour.
The Blue Line has 43 stations on its route which passes through some of the most populous areas of the capital. It is the longest line in the Delhi Metro network.
