Naharlagun, Dec 1 (ANI): Describing Seva Dal as the numero uno frontal wing of the Congress, Chief Minister and Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal (APCSD) chairman Nabam Tuki on Sunday exhorted its cadres to rekindle the patriotic spirit of Indians, particularly the Arunachalees.
Addressing over 1,000 cadres at the inaugural function of the weeklong North East zonal Seva Dal training camp here, Tuki said: "Arunachal is a mini-India despite its sensitive and strategic location. The patriotic spirit of Arunachalees have to be rekindled all the time to give a befitting reply to China, which very often than not claims our territory as its own and even objected when President Pranab Mukherjee visited the state on November 29. I rebutted China yesterday. Arunachal is part of India, and none can object when President or Prime Minister visit their own country."
"Training skills trainees and widens the knowledge base that helps in working for the greater welfare of the society as per the Seva Dal's multi-faceted role. Work hard, you would be ultimately rewarded the way I as NSU/Seva Dal cadre has been made the chief minister," Tuki said to the thunderous applause of the gathering.
"Congress is not power-hungry and cadres even while out of power would continue to serve in every village of the country," Tuki said and stressed the need to strengthen the Congress to tackle numerous problems of the NE region.
"Seva Dal formed in 1923 to extend voluntary service has proved its contributions to the nation as well as the party," said All India Congress Seva Dal chief organiser Mahendra Joshi.
"The Congress is committed to the unity, integrity and all round development of India, which has been proved during its 128 years' service," Joshi said while taking a dig at religion-, caste- and region-based parties for spreading disunity in the country.
Democracy, socialism, secularism and equality are the bedrock of Congress and the NE region is a strong forte of the party while Seva Dal cadres are spread up to village level in remote Arunachal, he said and urged the cadres to disseminate information about flagship programmes implemented by the UPA-I and II to benefit people at the grassroots.
He said India's 67 percent population is youth, the highest in the world, who could change the destiny of India and exhorted the cadres to rise to the occasion. He expressed concern at the rising crimes against women and urged them to take steps to check it.
Seva Dal has spread communal harmony and a sense of oneness in the state, said Finance Minister Chowna Mein, and advised the cadres to ensure that GoAP policies are implemented effectively. He requested all legislators to encourage and support the Seva Dal cadres to strengthen the party.
Seva Dal cadres from all over the region except Mizoram would be trained by 30 trainers during the camp while Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland cadres are attending for the first time, camp commandant PA Gurung informed.
The camp is aimed at strengthening Seva Dal movement, inculcate the spirit of voluntary service, self-reliance and selfless dedication to the cause of the nation in the minds of the youth in tune with the INC ideology besides teaching discipline, punctuality, feeling of oneness and sacrifice for nation building, Gurung added.
Terming Seva Dal as the backbone of INC, APCSD chief organiser Taki Taba said the camp aimed at exchanging ideas besides getting ready for the ensuing Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)
