Japan's imperial couple Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko on Saturday arrived in New Delhi for a week-long visit to commemorate the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties between the two countries.
This will be the first time that Japanese emperor and empress would be visiting the country.
During their stay in Delhi, they will meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in an effort to promote bilateral relationships.
The imperial couple last visited India in 1960 as the crown prince and the crown princess.
Japan is India's largest source of aid and plays a key role in supporting infrastructure development, financing projects like Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, and Bangalore Metro Rail Project.
