Ahmedabad/Khetri, Nov.26 (ANI): The Congress Party on Tuesday questioned the credibility of the commission that has been appointed to investigate the snooping scandal involving Gujarat Police and the state government, and termed it an eyewash.
News portals Cobrapost and Gulail had aired an alleged taped conversation between former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah, and police officer G.L. Singhal.
In the alleged taped conversation, Shah was instructing Singhal to closely monitor the movements of the woman referred to in the report as "Madhuri", not her real name.
The Gujarat Government has set up a two-member panel of former judge Sugunaben Bhatt and retired bureaucrat K. C. Kapoor to probe charges.
Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia, said: "It is a save Modi commission. I demand that a FIR (First Information Report) should be registered and a sitting judge of the Supreme Court should conduct the inquiry. The BJP should demand resignation of Modi as it took resignation of Sanjay Joshi."
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked Gujarat Police to trace the girl involved and her father.
"We have written to the chief secretary and the director-general of police to investigate it, as we are not able to trace the girl's address. We are not sure of the credibility of letter, which was sent by her father to the Women's Commission. If somebody wants to withdraw the complaint, he can do it by submitting an affidavit to the commission," said NCW member Nirmala Samant in New Delhi.
Shah, who is currently heading the BJP's election campaign in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly misused his powers and the police machinery for illegal surveillance of a young woman in August 2009 at the behest of his 'saheb' (sir). (ANI)
