Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday inaugurated country's first women bank “Bharatiya Mahila Bank” in Mumbai. It will primarily serve women but deposits will also be taken from men.
Usha Ananthasubramanian, who was executive director of Punjab National bank, is the chairperson of the bank.
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram were also present at the event held at the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's 96th Birth Anniversary.
With the inauguration of the bank at the Air India building in Nariman Point, seven branches became operational across the country.

Indian Women's Bank will have a network of 25 branches by March 2014.
