Open door forces Air India flight to return to Jeddah

New Delhi, Sat, 16 Nov 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Nov.16 (ANI): An Air India flight that took off from Jeddah for Mumbai via Hyderabad was forced to return after a cockpit panel indicated that one of the aircraft's doors had not been properly locked.

About 380 passengers and twelve crew suffered a mid-flight scare when the Boeing 747 Jumbo flight AI 964 on the Jeddah-Hyderabad-Mumbai route, came up with a warning light indicating that one of its doors had been left open on Friday.

The aircraft's pilot immediately took the decision to return to Jeddah.

Airline engineers then carried out thorough checks on the aircraft, which could only take off after about two hours.

The flight was diverted to Mumbai instead of Hyderabad as the Flight Duty Time Limitation of the cockpit and cabin crew was about to end.

The plane has landed in Mumbai. Hyderabad-bound passengers have also been flown to the city by another flight, an Air India spokesperson said. (ANI)
