To address the grievances of the public, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have put in place an online grievance system. A function ‘Face to Face’ was organized by FICCI’s in which all the commissioners from the three civic bodies were present and replied the public grievances.
During the program, people raise question on the working style of various agencies. Public raises question mark on the lapses by the agencies for which people are bound to face difficulties. They have raise question on the trouble of roads, water and other troubles including water logging in various parts of Delhi.
Arun Kumar, a citizen from South Delhi complaint that the intersectin of the road were it is difficult to find out in which possession either MCD or PWD. Certainly it creates trouble for the common people. He has complaints about the water logging issue in his locality.
In the function the Municipal Commissioners of Delhi, agreed that the issues of garbage disposal, sewage system, drainage system, condition of roads and horticulture aspirations of the city and similar concerns, still stare them on the face and they are finding innovative ways to address them.
Jalaj Srivastava, NDMC Chairman (Central Delhi), said, in addition to the existing online grievance redressal system, the NDMC is now setting up a call centre which will have a four digit number and a team of professionals will register the complaints and immediately it will be forwarded to the concerned officer and the person registering the complaint will receive a confirmation.
P K Gupta, Municipal Commissioner, North MCD, said that in his zone the two biggest challenges were fund constraints and providing basic civic amenities in some of the congested areas such as Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh. The task of providing drainage and sanitation facilities in such areas is difficult because there is hardly any space to set up the facilities. Also, managing rural areas like Narela is an issue because they cover a huge area and are ill planned.
Manish Gupta, Municipal Commissioner, South MCD, pointed out that the unplanned development taking place in various parts of the cityover the last two decades has resulted in making the task of MCD difficult. Over time, many such unplanned areas were regularized, which triggered unplanned development. He added that there were coordination concerns as well among the various agencies working in the city.
