New York, Nov. 02 (ANI): Climate change is gong to pose sharp risks to the world's food supply in coming decades, a leaked UN draft report revealed.
The Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change warned that climate change could have wide-ranging negative effects, like reduced crop production and simultaneous price rise, the New York Times reports.
Earlier, the scientists had concluded that rising temperatures will have some beneficial effects on crops in some places, but that globally they will make it harder for crops to thrive.
However, the adverse effects of sharp climatic changes have already begun to show at some places.
The scientists said that many plants and animals have started colonizing new areas to escape rising temperatures, and warned that many could become extinct as human emissions of greenhouse gases continue to rise.
The document, which is under development by a United Nations panel, is not final and could change before it is released in March. (ANI)
