The Nobel Committee at Swedish Karolinska Institute Monday announced the Nobel Prize in the field of medicine.
This year this award will be shared between three scientists - two Americans and one German for their extraordinary discovery in the field of medicine.
According to Nobel Assembly statement, "The 2013 Nobel Prize in Medicine went to James E Rothman (US), Randy W Schekman (US) and Thomas C Sudhof (German) for their discoveries of machinery regulating vesicle traffic, a major transport system in our cells."
The three Nobel Laureates have discovered the molecular principles that govern how this cargo is delivered to the right place at the right time in the cell, reports Xinhua.
The prestigious Nobel Prize is delivered every year in six fields: Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, Social Service and Peace, and Economics. The inventor of Dynamite Swedish scientist Sir Alfred Noble had founded this prize in 1895. The award comprises a cash prize of 8-million Swedish Krona (US$1.25million), a noble gold medal and a Diploma in each section. If there is more than one scientist in each category, it is equally divided.
