Evra fears football will never win the battle against racism following Toure incident

London, Sat, 26 Oct 2013 ANI

London, Oct 26 (ANI): Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has said that he worries UEFA are fighting a losing battle following racist chanting directed at Yaya Toure in Moscow.

According to the Mirror, European football's governing body UEFA has launched an investigation after Toure was allegedly subjected to monkey chants in Manchester City's 2-1 win away to CKSA Moscow.

Evra, racially abused by Liverpool's Luis Suarez, believes UEFA are fighting a losing battle, the report said.

He said that if he was honest, he had to admit that racism would never be stopped.

Manchester United defender Evra was vindicated when an independent FA commission found Suarez guilty of racially abusing him during a game at Anfield in October 2011, the report added.

Suarez was hit with an eight-match ban and a 40,000-pound fine but Evra, 32, said he was pessimistic when asked if he felt the war on racism in football would ever be won, the report further said.

He said that racism had been going on for years and as Yaya says, UEFA had to do something about it. (ANI)
