Gurgaon, Oct 20 (IANS) A group of French teachers and students, here on a cultural exchange visit, had a first-hand experience of policing Gurgaon, the Millennium City, during a meeting with top cop Alok Mittal, an official said Sunday.

Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal told the French visitors about policing, crime and traffic control in his city which is the industrial and financial centre of Haryana.

The 19-member delegation, including two teachers, from France's Lyon city is here as part of an academic-cum-cultural exchange programme.

The students learned about the police recruitment process, and the kind of weapons, vehicles and communication gadgets used by police personnel. They also inquired about the law and order situation and crime rate in the city.

Mittal told them that in India there were three level enrolments in the police services. One is from constable to inspector level, second as deputy superintendent of police (DSP) or assistant commissioner of police (ACP) by states and third is the Indian Police Service (IPS).

Minimum academic qualification mandatory for a constable's job in Haryana was Higher Secondary examination.

The French students said they were amazed by the traffic snarls, stray cattle and unregulated movement of vehicles on city roads.

"They (French students) arrived on Oct 13 and witnessed the Dussehra ceremony - the burning of demon king Ravana's effigy. Our students and teachers will also get to know about the French Revolution through their presentation," Rupa Chakravarty, principal of Suncity World School here, told IANS.

The French students have come to Gurgaon on her invitation.

Chakravarty said that an Indian delegation of teachers and students from Suncity World School visited Lyon in April on a similar programme.
