Imphal, Oct. 14 (ANI): The Tribal Museum and Research Centre (TMRC) in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangralaya (IGRMS), Bhopal, has organized a ten-day workshop here to protect, revive and promote the distinct tribal attire of various sects in the state.
"There are various tribes and communities in Manipur. We have different kinds of headgears to identify one's own tribe. So, by making this headgear, we want to preserve it," Director of the TMRC, Gyaneshwore Singh said.
The 25 participants of the workshop are skilled artisans, and said that the ten-day platform has given them an opportunity to mingle and unite in their cause to conserve their tribal identity.
"I am very happy that different tribes have come together here, and we are getting to know each other. So, I think organizing such a workshop is very good," H. Nguning Thangal, a trainer from Tangkhul, said.
"This is the first time that I am participating to make headgear. It looks very simple, but it's very complicated to make. So, I wanted to learn it from here so that I can make it, the original headgears, and, I want to preserve it," Worngam Dilung, a trainee from Mao, said.
Elders from different tribes taught the youth how to make the headgear and dress, in an attempt to pass on the method of the traditional creation to the next generation.
