Sydney, Oct 13 (ANI): Former Australian Test greats Ian Healy and Matthew Hayden have backed coach Darren Lehmann's decision to 'pick and stick' with the top-order, beginning with the winter Ashes.
Both Healy and Hayden are aware of what it was like to walk the tightrope early in their Test careers, and have put their support behind Lehmann's 'one team' policy as they believe that the move will tackle the greatest career killer of all - insecurity.
According to News.com.au, Healy said that the constant chopping in the team shows the dilemma it is in, adding that to make the players the best in the game, it is necessary to have a stable and a settled team.
Stating that Australia has made the same mistakes with the constant axing now like England did in the 1990s, Healy also said that the team had batsmen who were going nowhere and bowlers getting constantly rested, adding that it is necessary to build a team by improving an individual player.
Agreeing with Healy, Hayden said that axing is fine as long as a team has experienced and fine players, adding that the current Australian team consists of mainly youngsters, and rarely a team has a player like Ricky Ponting who nailed it from the start of his career.
According to Hayden, with the constant chopping and axing, players feel selection pressure all the time, making it difficult for them to perform. (ANI)
