Johannesburg, Oct 13 (ANI): South African sports minister Fikile Mbalula has hailed Cricket South Africa (CSA) for adopting its new quota policy in a bid to accelerate the development of black African players.
According to the new policy, all franchises that play more than one black African player for more than 70 percent of the matches across all three formats will be reimbursed the average contract cost of the qualified Black African players, in effect from October 16.
Sport24 reports that Mbalula lauded the new policy and said that even though there is still a need to correct the balance and build confidence going into the 2015 World Cup, cricket in the country is on the right path and is not doing badly considering what it wanted to achieve.
According to Mbalula, even without quotas in place, the national team has identified no less than five competent, on-merit players participating in the national side. (ANI)
