BJP demands statement from PM, Antony on Pak troops allegedly entering Indian village

New Delhi, Wed, 02 Oct 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Oct 2 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday reacted sharply to media reports of Pakistan Army troops occupying an Indian village along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, and demanded a statement from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister A.K. Antony or Army Chief General Bikram Singh.

"It is a very unfortunate and dangerous trend if it is true. The first and foremost is that a statement from the Minister of Defence himself, the Prime Minister of this country or the President of the country must come. And the Chief of Army Staff must make a statement as to what the truth is, because truth has been kept away from the people of this country," BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said.

"The first step is to throw them out of this country and we have to take adequate steps that no such thing happens in the future," she added.

According to certain media reports, the Indian troops were engaged in a gunfight to clear Pakistani troops who had occupied a ghost village along the LoC. This untoward incident took place even as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York last week during which they agreed to work out a more effective mechanism to stop ceasefire violations on the border.

According to reports, the Pakistani Army has taken over Shala Bhata village in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Reports say the intrusion took place on the night of September 23 when a routine troop rotation was happening on the Indian side.

Indian Army sources have, however, denied such reports.

The India-Pakistan relationship has been especially stressed since August 6, when five Indian soldiers by were ambushed by Pakistani troops in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Since then, there have been multiple incidents of ceasefire violation along the LoC and militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir have also increased. (ANI)
