Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Monday visited to the kin to martyr Lance Naik Hemraj Singh, who had been killed and beheaded along with another soldier by Pakistani troops on 08 January 2013 at Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also announced a compensation of Rs.25 lakhs for the bereaved family that is at present holding anshan (fast protest) seeking from government’s to bring back the head of the martyr.
"It is time to give moral strength to the bereaved family. We will extend all our support to the martyr's family," he told the media here after meeting the martyr's family.
Earlier in the day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari along with senior leader Sushma Swaraj also met the family members of Hemraj Singh.
Later talking to media, Gadkari said Prime Minster Dr. Manmohan Singh should break his silence on the issue and that the government should step up pressure on Pakistan.
He further said that the BJP would raise this issue in Parliament in the next session.
Hemraj's family have refused to end their indefinite fast seeking the return of his severed head. Hemraj's wife Dharamvati, mother Meena and cousin Narendra have taken nothing but intravenous fluid as their condition deteriorated while doctors kept a close watch and examined them at regular intervals.
Army Chief General Bikram Singh today said he would meet the family of Hemraj Singh.
"I will go. Tomorrow is Army Day, I will send my senior officer there. I will definitely go. Let this event, the Army Day, be over, I will definitely go and meet the family. If that is the demand, I shall be there," General Singh told media in Delhi.
On bringing back the head of Lance Naik Hemraj, General Singh said that the matter is being pursued through the diplomatic channel, adding that the matter has been conveyed at Director General of Military Operation (DGMO) level.
Asserting that Pakistan had pre-planned the whole operation, General Singh said that the beheading and the mutilation of the bodies of two Indian jawans was against all rules of engagement, gruesome and unpardonable.
Lance Naik Hemraj and Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh were killed by infiltrating Pakistani soldiers in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir on January 8.
Their bodies were found mutilated, sparking a diplomatic face-off between India and Pakistan and tension along the Line of Control that separates the two countries.
Pakistan has denied India's claim that its troops crossed the Line of Control to ambush a patrol party in the Mendhar sector in Poonch district.
